Why can't I monetize my Passion/Hobby?

By now you probably have realized that the topics that I can write about is pretty diverse. But this post will answer most of your burning questions: Why can't I monetize my passion/hobby?

Passion or Hobby is something that you actually ENJOY doing rather than it actually being a chore that you just absolutely hate or have simply no choice because you want to feed yourself.

Of course some people with this mentality will eventually think that something that they put their heart and soul into doing something as their pride and joy, people will like it.

Unfortunately for most cases, that is false.

I can say this from experience from one of my oversea's friend who made a game (Or rather still in the process of doing it), he thinks that he made a game that has some complex character developments with intertwining pasts and a lot of other unique points. (Which most professional game companies are sorely lacking compared to indies).

But people can't see it! They don't care! It's not what they want! Your game utilizes Turn-Based combat?

Tell that to a hundred gamers and 75 of them will say that it's outdated and will not play for that factor alone without taking into account of your graphics which you painstakingly made or story which took you over a month of write it.

In a way I find it a little bad for most people who go around having that mentality, but unfortunately no one gives a damn about your passion!

What they care more is what value you can provide them which merits their cash!

If your hobby or passion appeals to a lot of people in general, you can count yourself lucky, but most of the time it just doesn't work that way, most hobby or passion will only stir interest in very specific niche rather than a broad niche which severely limits your 'Viral' potential and exposure. Thus detrimental to your option of trying to make some cash out of it.

If you truly love doing something as a passion or hobby, go get a job, spent your free time on your passion and make them free. Since people love free stuff, your passion will definitely attract more people compared to the paid model.
